was a speaker at national conventions for both the Associated General Contractors and the National Association of Home Builders.

University-Level Teaching Skills -
John developed his teaching skills as a professor of Construction Management for six years at the University of Washington. Through teaching John had the opportunity to integrate his GC experience and his expertise in construction software technology to bring hands-on management techniques into the classroom.

Using lecture and slide presentations in classroom and computer lab settings. John taught Construction Estimating, Timberline Precision Estimating, Primavera Scheduling, Advanced Integrated Computer Applications, Construction Methods & Materials, Construction Safety, and Contract Documents.

John wrote numerous articles on various construction topics and made presentations to conferences for Rinker International and the American Society of Civil Engineers. In addition, John co-authored a book on writing contracts based on a defined scope of work. Contracts with the Trades was published by the National Association of Home Builders.

Expertise in Computerized Estimating - John's interest in computers began in the mid 1970's and rapidly grew with the developing needs of his construction company. Since construction software was very limited at that time, he developed his own software and database by:
  • Co-founding a leading accounting software program, 1976
  • Developing one of the first General Contractor databases, 1979
  • Converting his General Contractor database to conform to the first release of Precision Estimating, 1987
  • Creating a scheduling startup program for users of Primavera Project Planner, 1989
  • Researching a national construction database to be linked online to manufacturers of construction products, 1990
  • Creating a comprehensive assembly database for residential and commercial construction for users of Timberline Estimating. The "Advanced Assembly Database" was copyrighted in 2002.

These diverse experiences are now focused on Timberline consulting, training and custom database development to meet the estimating needs of construction firms.

Certified Consultant & Trainer - A Precision user since 1987, John became a Certified Consultant and Trainer for Timberline Estimating in 1999. His knowledge of the construction business, expertise in database development and his teaching skills are valuable tools to communicate with contractors and customize databases to fit their requirements.

John conducted hundreds of training sessions for Timberline Estimating users in contractors’ offices, dealer classes, and university computer labs.  Individual and group instruction are designed to meet the needs of commercial and residential contractors in Florida and the southeastern United States.

Education - John's early interest in using construction software and developing estimating databases led him to seek a masters degree in construction management and to write his thesis on database integration for the construction industry.
